Will Henderson’s Farewell

“With great care, medical students Leimomi Kanagasuku (MD 2018), Gavin Ha (MD 2020) and Nina Beckwith (MD 2018) boarded a canoe crewed by the Kailua Canoe Club, carrying with them Henderson’s ashes, wrapped in a ti leaf puʻolo. Once the canoe was offshore, saying prayers and singing, they lowered the puʻolo into the gentle waves, allowing Henderson’s cremains to settle into the clear, turquoise sea. They left lei and flower blossoms floating in the ocean above his final resting place

The students took part in the ceremony to express their gratitude to Henderson, who had spent many hours at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) the past few years to make sure that in settling his affairs, he could contribute to the school and its students in a meaningful way.”
